John Yorke is Managing Director of Company Pictures, the UK drama independent producing Skins, Shameless, The White Queen and Wolf Hall. For many years he's been responsible for a vast array of British drama, as both Head of Channel Four Drama and Controller of BBC Drama Production. In 2005 he created the BBC Writers Academy, a year-long in-depth training scheme which has produced a generation of successful television writers. He's also worked as Editor of The Archers. John is Visiting Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Great book on how and why stories work. Even though it's supposed to be for the genre of drama for theater oder TV, I used it for my novel I'm writing on and it works just as good.Perfect for plotting your story, no matter which genre or medium. It's not talking about all elements that apply for plotting a novel, but emphasizes the most important ones like midpoint, plotpoints and pinch, therefore gives you a great insight into the structure of every story.
I'd recommend this book. It gets you a great overview about several storytelling techniques and sums up everything wonderfully. Some things are in there, which you will probably already know - yet still, a great book to get an overview and orientation.
I believe there is no other author who handles the topic of storytelling more neutral and detailed like John Yorke.
